Games are evil, they reward people for being as mean, deceitful, greedy, selfish, treacherous and unethical as possible. Why do people love them so much? In order to be good at a game, I have to channel a basically demonic attitude. It makes me very unhappy to be forced into that mode of thinking. But that is what is expected, or else you aren’t “trying” or “not really playing well”.
Basically, the more you act like Golem from Lord of the Rings, the better you are at games. Why people are able to look down their nose at Golem and then praise board games as a healthy social activity, I’ll never understand.
